Good Morning.

An early start here at AAV. By the time you read this, Javi and I should be nearing Penn Station in NYC for a whirlwind trip.

In some ways, this is a pilgrimage for your AAV staff. This trip was actually Javi's idea, but I've been putting it off and deflecting it for over a year.

Javi specifically wanted to go to New York to see the 9/11 museum.

He was only a month old when it happened, so he has no living memory of the event. For the rest of us, of course we'll still remember as we draw our last breaths. I do not know what to expect...is it going to be traumatic? cathartic? Or will it make me mad all over again?

It's not in our plans to head to the East Side anywhere near the United Nations, but it's actually not that far from where we're staying. I doubt I could get an audience with Paul Rieckhoff without an appointment...but I'm also audacious enough to walk up to IAVA headquarters on 3rd Avenue and ask. You never know.

I'll leave you with a follow-up from one of the stories reported here last week: David Shulkin's chief of staff has resigned over the travel scandal in the V.A. that was breaking last week. I'm sure the rest of the media has already forgotten about it.

The chief of staff for Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin retired on Friday amid accusations that she doctored emails, media reports say.

The agency's inspector general accused Vivieca Wright Simpson of writing false emails so that air fares to Europe for the secretary's wife would be paid for with public money.

Ms Wright Simpson allegedly got tickets worth $4,300 (£3,100) covered.

She has disputed the allegations, according to the New York Times.

Ms Wright Simpson's 32-year-service with the agency ended on Friday when she retired.

"She called me this morning and told me she doesn't want to be in this environment anymore," Mr Shulkin told the Military Times.

The announcement comes only two days after a report released by the Veterans Affairs (VA) administration's internal inspector general, Michael Missal, recommended she be disciplined.

We'll be reporting in from time to time from the Big City. Everybody play nice!
